El Departamento de Ciencias Agr\u00edcolas, Alimentarias y Nutricionales de la Universidad de Alberta public\u00f3 un estudio que demostr\u00f3 que la cojera es una de las dolencias m\u00e1s graves que padecen las vacas lecheras, y que el suelo inadecuado es una de las causas. El uso de suelos de concreto se ha asociado con un aumento de los problemas en las pezu\u00f1as. Aumentar tanto la suavidad como el grado de fricci\u00f3n de la superficie del suelo mejora la movilidad de las vacas y reduce el riesgo de lesiones por ca\u00eddas. Un suelo m\u00e1s blando delante de los comederos puede aumentar el tiempo que el ganado pasa cerca del comedero y puede aumentar la ingesta de alimento. El estudio compar\u00f3 el suelo de concreto sin ranuras con las opciones de suelo de caucho m\u00e1s blando de Animat, que tiene una superficie rugosa que proporciona una buena fricci\u00f3n. Use of concrete flooring has been associated with increased hoof problems. Increasing both the softness and the degree of surface friction of the floor improves cow mobility and reduces the risk of injury from falls. Softer flooring in front of feed bunks can increase the time cattle spend close to the feeder and may increase feed intake. The study compared un-grooved concrete flooring with Animat\u2019s softer rubber flooring options which has a rough surface providing good friction. When walking on Animat, the cows walked about 8% faster and slipped less: 70% of cows slipped at least once when walking on the concrete but only 20% slipped when walking on Animat.
